Wohnen+ Basel recently hosted Dr. Natalie Mengis, an orthopedic surgeon, who is involved with a public health initiative called “Walk with a Doc” (walkwithadoc.org). Dr. Mengis offers free walking programs in Basel allowing participants to safely walk (or roll), learn about current health topics and meet new people.
Dr. Mengis spoke to us specifically about healthy aging and she helped raise our awareness of what can be achieved through staying active, staying connected and addressing issues early.
Her presentation, which is available at the end of this article, focuses on maintaining muscle, bone, joint, and social health through exercise, nutrition, and community engagement.
Of course, we can’t turn back the hands of time, but regular exercise, social engagement, and small healthy choices will help us to age well. The phrase which sticks in our mind is: Motion is Lotion.
The next “Walk with a Doc” will be on 31 October 2026. The meeting point is the main entrance of the Felix Platter-Spital. Further information available: https://walkwithadoc.org/join-a-walk/locations/basel-switzerland/
